must...have...my...DD...french...vanilla...

I've been addicted for years, stopping on the way to work. Moved here with the idea to be adaptable to anything, but somehow wasn't prepared to miss it so much... Anyway, we've been buying it at BJ's the last couple of months but somebody posted here that it doesn't taste quite the same brewed at home, and I would have to agree. BUT I'm not complaining...I'll take it as I can get it.

They ought to open DD's in Harris Teeter stores, like they do in Stop & Shop here...having been in both, they are similar stores with similar customers, and it would probably do great! Stop & Shop even has a cupholder on their shopping carts (buggies!) for holding a coffee while you shop.

If I had a ton of money, I'd so go into DD franchises in the Triangle!!!

I have found Starbucks coffee beans, and ground breakfast blend, at SAM's, no less. It is roughly $6.00 per pound. The large, large bag of beans sells for $18.00, as does the box of coffee with (3) 1 pound bags of ground breakfast blend.

Just FYI, if you like Starbucks, and can stand going into a SAM's.

I wonder if the different taste of the coffees, whether Starbuck's or Dunkin's, has to do with other things -- like whether it is made with filtered water or not, and the actual coffeemaker. My coffeemaker at home, albeit a good one, never brews the coffee as h-o-t as what I'd like, and never as hot as Starbuck's or Dunkin's or other coffee houses. It may just not be as simple as the beans or the grind.

ARRGGHH.

Wink How to brew DD Coffee

Unfortunately the biggest reason is your brewer. I worked for DD in the 90's and I'll tell you their brew requirements - water temp 195 degrees. Standard home machine is 165-170, higher temp allows for bigger grind profile which relinquishes less acid while taking the oils, non-commercial brewer will need smaller grind to get the oils and takes more acidity. Also, the commercial brewer heats the water faster, allows for the water to go through faster which also delivers higher quality.

So get a single phase 208 brewer for your home or stop at DD for your coffee.

Other BIG reason, if you drink it with half and half, you use regular half and half with a 10% butterfat content, they use light cream MMMMMMMMMMMMMM! 18% butterfat.

They have great coffee, I miss being in Boston with one on every corner.

I vote Peets coffee the best! I loved Starbucks when it was just the one store at Pike Place Market in Seattle. Now it's just McStarbucks to me. Peets will probably get there soon, too

I loved Torrefazzione Italia--a little mom-and-pop roaster in Pioneer Square, Seattle. We used to mail order our coffee when we left Seattle for NoVA. But Starbucks bought 'em.

As far as DD. I'm in MA so you can't swing a dead cat wtihout hitting a Dunkies. Around here Dunkie's people hate Starbucks and vice-versa. DD coffee tastes watered down to me. I actually like McDonald's Newman's brew better!

I live in MA too.... very small town w/ TWO DD's!
I didn't even drink coffee 6.5 years ago when I moved here but my first winter I was SO cold, I had to try it. Now I'm addicted to French Vanilla.
And ALWAYS a long line at the drive thru's every morning! Amazing!

It's also the most expensive. I'm not that big of an idiot to overpay for groceries when the same could be had for much cheaper.

Well considering that the "self serve" grocery store concept was first launched by the Piggly-Wiggly chain that currently has 600 stores in the southern states, "Harris Teeter" sounds pretty serious!
