Pegotty, pretty much any diesel car can run on biodiesel. With really older cars (like from the 80s) you may have to switch out some of the hoses to the more durable ones they use today. We bought our 2004 straight off the lot w/ no modifications. We don't make our own fuel. We just buy it from the Piedmont Biofuels pumps. You can make it at home, though. Piedmont Biofuels can point you in the right direction. Spend a little time on their website:
Just out of curiosity (and I hope I'm not veering off topic here)...
What was the average increase in your electric bill? Does it negate any gas savings?
Just one of those things I was wondering about.
Nope. Doesn't. Mine went up about 10-15 bucks a month. Varies.
The worst I had it was 20 bucks more, but that before my hubby could charge free at work and it was during the summer last year and probably because it's higher in summer anyway.
We've bought ours more to vote with our money. If people aren't willing to give alt fuels a chance, manufacturers will have no incentive to produce more affordable alt fuel cars.
Fossil fuels cannot run cars forever, yanno?

Oh I agree...it was actually something I was just thinking of the other day and when I saw this thread pop up I figured I'd ask.
Yeah... it's something I hear often... people say that the electric will cost more (it doesn't)... that's usually followed by a speech on coal-fired plants having more emissions than cars.
They do, but it's easier to control them in one area as opposed to up and down thousands of miles of highway, eh?
And besides, we do have a nuclear power plant nearby.

Leaf has MPGe of 99, so figure you'll spend about a third of what you would on energy for a similar gasoline car. I think that's how it works, anyway. There are free charging stations, too, so even better.
Yes, I'd much rather use our nuclear power than gasoline.
I'd love full electric but live in an apartment. No way to set up a charging station here.
