I live in North Durham and play golf at The Preserve and Chapel Ridge quite a bit. I'm hoping it will cut 10 mins of my trip each way. Currently I have to get on 751 and try not to run over the hordes of bikers who like to ride side by side on roads that frequently have cars towing 26 foot boats (not smart). Looks like it will be about 3 bucks round trip but if it saves me half a gallon of gas and 20 minutes I'll gladly pay.
I got my latest bill in the mail the other day and got hit with the $6 fee as well, even though I paid on their own website nearly two weeks in advance. I called up the customer service number, and the woman was like, "Let's see, your bill was due 7/24, and you paid on.......7/12, wait, that's weird, I'm going to waive that fee for you." Looks like they've still got a bunch of kinks in their billing system that needs to be worked out.
Made the trip from my house to The Preserve in 37 minutes Sunday morning. I hate the idea of toll roads but will be using this one a ton in the future. I noticed the flash of the camera as I went through even though I have EZ pass....should I be worried about this or is that normal?

E-ZPass doesn't work on the toll road yet, only NC Quick Pass, unless that's what you meant.
LOL...he "didn't know how to handle" a 45-cent bill. Uh, the same way you handle any other bill.
That said, seems like they do need some tightening up given that late fees are in some cases are being applied improperly. But they do seem willing to waive them in many cases, even legitimate ones, while the kinks are being worked out.
I question the wisdom in billing someone for $0.45, when it cost more than that to issue the bill (1st class postage is $0.45 + the cost of an envelope + the cost of handling).
There is also the cost of processing the incoming payment. If it's by mail, there has to be a cost to open, separate and process the checks and cash and mailed credit card payments.
If it is payed by credit card, they'd also have to pay the credit card processing fee, which looks from some quick Googling to be about 10.9 cents, (I think 10 or 15 cents per transaction + something like 2% of the transaction).
I have to say .... I'd be tempted to go on-line, and pay them $0.46 just to be annoying. So that they'd eat the CC fees and also have to keep my account open for the $0.01 credit they owe me. Lack of common sense by the government doesn't surprise me, but it still aggravates me - since I realize that it's actually my (taxpayer) money they are wasting in the long run.
Does anyone know of some organization that puts a minimum on your account below which they don't bother billing you? IE: If you own less than an even dollar, they just let the balance ride until you go above?
