Default New to forum, where to look a home..HELP!

Hello everyone, we are new here! I've spent most of the morning reading "search results" until I have a headache!! Great info however!

We grew up in NC and currently live in Wilson, so not that far away. We visit the RTP area often and grew up when RTP was a very small place (long time). We love it here, but we are in the midst of debating a promotional opportunity to work at a company in Treyburn Park.

Although we visit the Raleigh area a lot, we typically do not look at homes for purchase so this is something new. To give you a little background, we currently do not have kids, but will be planning to have kids in the next year or two. We do not want a long commute to work and we want access to our vacation home on Lake Gaston (up 85 from RTP).

We know we are not going to get the same bang for the buck as where we currently live. But we sat down and listed some things we wanted in a new home. Now, we are confused as to where to look??? Need help and want to get as educated as possible before we need to seriously start looking and before we hook up with a real estate firm. We will look at anything from 200k to 400k and something in the 2200 sq ft (3 bed with bonus room) type setup. We like homes with character and fine features, not cookie cutter.

Suggestions or questions?

My wife and I like to do lists (sorry), but these are the things we love about our home and tend to want in a new home to give you a detailed idea:
