Amberly is nice, lots of amenities, they are building a section that is specifically for adults. There are a number of different builders, so there will probably be options to choose from within the builders. The lot sizes are not huge, but it really truly depends on what you want! Some people love bigger neighborhoods, smaller lots, convenient location and lots of amenities. Others want more space, etc. SO, as far as it goes, it is nice neighborhood!

Townhomes
How about the townhome areas? We are a young couple with no kids. Is it too family oriented? We're planning a visit in early November and would like to get a better idea of it before we go. We really like the idea, but we don't have any master planned communities here in NY...so we have no idea what one is like.

I think in the townhomes (in any neighborhood like this one) you are probably going to get a mix of people from new home buyer's (singles and couples) to small families and retirees. Cary tend to be a little more expensive than other areas of the triangle, and the demand for homes is high. Most of the subdivisions (new ones at least) are multiuse places, have townhomes, smaller "village" homes, and larger estate homes. I don't think you will feel out of place being a family without kids, but the best way to gauge that one is to drive through the neighborhood on a saturday or sunday afternoon. We did that with our neighborhood to see if there were actually kids (we moved into a new neighborhood and we have young kids, so we wanted some in the neighborhood). Anyhow, that seems to be the best way. With the number of young professionals in the area, I am sure you are going to get a good mix of people in the townhouses.
Basically, master planned communities have great amenities, lots of different priced housing choices, and some have shopping within the community (like grocery stores, etc). It all depends on the neighborhood. They are certainly convenient, although some people prefer to live in smaller neighborhoods, it is a personal taste thing. Anyhow, email me if you have more questions. Good luck with your decision.

There are two different areas with townhomes - the KB townhomes in Washington Square and the Poythress townhomes in the Village. The former being far less expensive than the latter.
I'm renting in Amberly right now as I wait for my home to be built elsewhere. I like it OK. I'm on a main road so the construction traffic is horrible. I also am not thrilled with the airplane noise.
That being said, I really love the Poythress townhomes. They've done a really nice job to make them look like downtown brownstones you might find in Boston or DC. They've done a beautiful job inside.

ELLE67, can you give a quick update on Amberley, it sounds like you are very pleased with your choice, but can you write a little about how it is to live in the area? Id the activity center open and what do you tink of it. Thank you!

Airplaine noise? I thought Amberly was supposed to be outside of the flight path. Can you elaborate on this?
