Default Must-see-places?

I'll be driving down from CT this weekend. To get a real feel for the area, besides looking at homes and buildings, what are some of the must-see places that will help me get a feel for the triangle area.

Looking for maybe: nature locations, parks/trails, pubs, churches, anything that will give me a feel for the area (laundry mat???lol). What should I definitely see?

Thanks

In addition to some great suggestions by miamiblue...

Nature/parks/trails: Durant Nature Park, Blue Jay Point County Park, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Eno River State Park (my personal favorite in the Triangle)

Pubs: Mitch's Tavern (Hillsborough St. across from NC State), Tyler's Taproom (Carrboro or Durham-American Tobacco Disrtrict), James Joyce (Durham Main St - Brightleaf Square)

Churches: Duke Chapel...stunning!

Urban settings: Raleigh - Glenwood South, Moore Square, Fayetteville Street. Durham - American Tobacco District, Brightleaf Square, 9th Street. Chapel Hill/Carrboro - Franklin Street

Eat breakfast at City Market--Big Ed's restaurant. Eggs, biscuits, grits, country ham. Delicious!

Also eat some good eastern NC bbq. Barbecue Lodge and Clyde Coopers are my favorites in Raleigh.

If you're in Chapel Hill, eat at Mama Dips or Crooks Corner.

Can you tell I'm hungry?

Lake Johnson on Avent Ferry near NC State (or Shelley Lake on Millbrook Rd) - nice paved trails around both.
NC Museum of Art - trail outside connects to greenway
Umstead Park - I prefer the Cary (Reedy Creek) entrance at Harrison and it's Company Mill Trail. Just the short trail to the creek is enough to get a feel.
Various gardens - Raleigh has Rose Garden/Little Theater and the NC State Arboretum near NC State, Duke has Duke Gardens
Parks - Pullen Park near NC State is a good family park
Bond Lake in Cary off High House Rd.
Lake Crabtree in Morrisville near I-40 and Aviation

5 Points in Raleigh on Glenwood - Have a pizza a Lilly's. Shop at an antique store
Downtown Apex - Peak City Grille, Antique stores, large church.
Glenwood South (Raleigh) - bars, restaurants
Moore Sq (Raleigh) - restaurants, bars, City Market has some galleries. 2 blocks over is Fayetteville st. More restaurants (Yancy's), Capital.
Oakwood neighborhood near downtown, Hayes Barton/5 Pts area off Glenwood
9th Street in Durham - restaurants/bars
Franklin St in Chapel Hill - ditto, college campus next door

That's a start
