Go to the Wake County SPCA website and sign up for one of the spay and neuter vouchers. It cost me less than $80 for the spay on my puppy. They have several vets listed as participating in the program. My own vet is listed so I used him...Dr. Kevin Monce/Petsound Animal Hospital. They are located in Cary right off Tryon Road (next to Wake Med Cary/behind Dannys BBQ).
I go to Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Apex. While my dogs were already neutred when we moved here, I can't say enough good things about Dr. Matthew Merryman. He is wonderful, caring, thorough etc. I have not found their services to be overpriced at all. Here's their link:
I had my dog neutered at the SPCA (6lbs Chihuahua) and they did a great dog. I've taken previous dogs to the SNAP wagon but this time I wanted something a bit less mobile. He was in barely any pain after - they did a great job and I think it was $65.
I used the Friends of Animals voucher program. It did not have any financial requirements to qualify, just the desire to have your pet altered by a participating veterinarian. The cost is $90 for a dog spay and $60 for a dog neuter. I had quite a few choices of veterinarians who participated.
Decided on Dr. Strunk at Carefirst Animal Hospital in Morrisville. He was very attentive during our pre-op visit and found that our boy's pre-anesthesia bloodwork was less than optimal for receiving general anesthesia for the procedure. We choose to wait one week and retest. Labs came back fine as expected and he proceeded. All went well. Akoni's recovery was unremarkable.
Highly recommend CareFirst!
I used them as well and am very satisfied with it, they took good care of my dog.
