That actually depends on the flight length and if it's domestic/international. Several airlines provide complimentary meals on flights that are international and/or over a certain hourly length. I got free food and a pillow on my last flight to Europe (France) for example via United Airlines.

This is true but outside of sitting in first class and international, there really is no complimentary food, pillows or blankets. OP was specifically asking about the RDU-SFO flight. I know United won't be providing pillows and while I haven't flown RDU-SFO yet, my ticket states "Food for Purchase." International flying is a whole different ball game!

Yeah no free food on the trans-continental flights. If you're lucky they might throw some peanuts at you.

I recently flew Delta from Jacksonville to Portland (though Atlanta), and got a $50 credit for applying for their Skymiles card. Another benefit of the airline credit card is that your checked bag is free, otherwise they would charge $25 to check one bag.

I suggest bringing a sandwich or piece of fried chicken or something else that will keep in your bag, plus fruit. The food for purchase on Delta was a $7 bag of beef jerky.

DL FA's have always provided me with a blanket and pillow back in economy when I've requested it. It's never been a problem for me, whether it be a tcon red eye or the 60 minute hop to ATL.
