For about 6 months now my wife an I have been job seeking in the Triangle area. We have been overlooked for plenty of positions we are well qualified for. Understandably it's a tight job market everywhere, and I am concerned that we are immediately overlooked because we aren't local.
We are serious about relocating, not concerned with the employer covering the interview or relocation costs, although it would be nice! I think having a local address would reassure an employer that we are serious about their job, and not just "shotgun blasting" open positions all over the internet.
How do I get an address in the Raleigh area that will forward any mail to my current address? What does it cost? Has anyone used one of these services prior to moving with success? thanks!
Dang man! Starting out with lieing to prospective employer?
Frisch, excellent idea. Just be sure to CYA by explaining the facts early in the process.
The first thing I address in the cover letter is that we are looking to move to the area. Also, if the application asks for both a home and cell number, I use my local number as the "home" and the local-to-them number as cell... this way there are no questions.
Funny thing is, the one call I have gotten so far... they called my local (to me) cell, long distance to them!
If you get the job they will realize at some point that you are relocating..
That would be enough for me to fire someone..Like someone said..its fraud..

Most places don't have a difference in local and long distance anymore with VOIP phones which most companies use now days.
Out of curiosity how is this fraud? He puts down a mailing address that is a true mailing address. Obviously he wants to move here but can't yet without a job. I'm really surprised how many people would "fire" someone for something like that. That and a local 919# show a hell of a lot of initiative. That god I don't work in the corporate world I would go postal.
The address issue isn't really fraud, just really deceptive. Since I know how hard it is to get a resume noticed, I would not fire over it either as long as the person was forthcoming about it immediately.
Also... TK... don't be too sure, where I work we punch in an access code and all long distance is tracked by individual. Anyone with a company cell phone is supposed to use that to dial long distance.
To each their own like I said been using it for years
$10/month plus taxes starts to add up, $180/yr.
Like I said above there are other benefits. I've gotten new numbers before only to find out that the previous owner didn't pay their bills... I ended up having to change numbers because of all the collections calls.
This gives one the opportunity to 'test drive' a number before changing...
