We've just arrived in the area and I need to get what is in all likelyhood BCC (Basel Cell Carcinoma) diagnosed and removed. I've done some looking around on line and it appears that Cary Skin Center is much more focused on this type of dermatology than cosmetic (e.g. Cary Dermatology). However, Cary Dermatology has at least one recommendation on the net, but I don't know for what procedure.

Can anyone provide any information on Cary Skin Center, or other clinics for skin cancer treatment?

Thanks!

My whole family goes to Cary Dermatology for non cosmetic procedures. My father has had several BCC's and my mother has had melanoma. My teen daughter has severe acne and my husband has psoriasis. They all go to Cary Dermatology and see Dr's. Chiramonti and Wrenn.

When I called the Cary Skin Center (Hwy 55 in the Apex/SW Cary area), I was told I needed a referral. My husband has a history of BCC and melanomas, so I'd like some help in this area too. It seems many of the dermatologists are more cosmetic-oriented.

He eventually had to drive back to Wilmington (where we lived before Cary) to have a place on his nose treated. We need a little more 'aggressive' dermatologist too.

If I had some type of "serious" skin ailment or disease, I'd go to a licensed dermatologist with hospital privileges.

I don't know anything about Cary Skin Center but I've always thought these "centers" were more about cosmetic issues.

Thanks! That's good to know. Given their Web site, I would have guessed they are much more focused at cosmetics.

They probably make mega bucks on cosmetic stuff considering that people have to pay out of pocket for that type of work AND if they have it advertised on their website like that, people who google certain types of procedures will find their webpage more easily.

But they definitely do regular, non-cosmetic dermatology and my family is very pleased with them.

Default Cary Skin Center info

Cary Skin Center specializes in Mohs surgery for the removal of skin cancer as well as excisions for Melanoma. They do require that you have already seen another dermatologist and been diagnosed with skin cancer; they do not do the biopsies or skin checks. So if you are just looking for a regular dermatologist then they aren't the place to go. If you have been diagnosed with a skin cancer, such as a basal cell or squamous cell, I highly recommend the Mohs procedure. The physicians at Cary Skin Center have each had an additional 1-2 years of training in Mohs and reconstruction on top of their regular dermatology training. Some other local Mohs surgeons have only had a 4-day training course that did not include the reconstruction so be very cautious when choosing a Mohs surgeon. I hope this information helps!!

My wife and I have been treated by 3 of the doctors on staff at Cary Dermatology. They are all excellent care providers, and really know theit stuff regarding BCC issues. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Unfortunately, Cary Dermatology is currently booking new patients in, April! Naturally, I want my BCC removed before then, since it's busy spreading in the meantime.

That's crazy. I called them this summer and it only took maybe 4 weeks to get an appointment for my son who has eczema (definitely lower priority then bcc). My mom had squamous cell carcinoma on her nose. She had to wait months to get it removed because she had to have it removed by a plastic surgeon who was also a dermatologist (or something like that) and it was very difficult to get on this doctor's schedule. Good luck finding someone else.
