New to the area and we would like recommendations for a reputable and reasonable car repair shop. My husband has a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is stalling repeatedly. We don't want (nor do we have) $$ to put into this car, so I don't want to pay through the nose just to get an estimate. If the repairs are estimated to cost more than $200, we will have to look at finding a new vehicle (used). So.....recommendations, please.
In our previous city, we had a local Firestone Car Care
facility that would give us an estimate without charging us. Does anything like that exist around here?
You may want to try Frantz Automotive in Cary. They're honest and will treat you right and are reasonably priced. I used to take my Hyundai to them when I lived closer to Cary and never had a gripe. In fact they wound up saving me money when the dealership tried to tell me I needed some serious brake work done pronto. Turns out my brakes were just fine.
I know you said Clayton , but off the 70 in Garner there is a place called Johnnys Auto Repair really resonalbly priced and does excellent work , honest too . Earlier this year my engine blew up in my chevy and my father had done inspections and minor repairs so we took it there .. they found an engine and put it in and my car runs great and it was priced so much cheaper than any other place .
Not sure which side of Clayton you're on, but Brian's Auto Repair off of Cleveland Road is fantastic. Everyone I know uses them. Super honest, extremely reasonably priced (I've never gotten a lower quote anywhere else), and they really know their stuff.
imo (Jeep owner) your repair will be $300 - as are most repairs for most vehicles btw. So if that is the answer you seek, then time for another vehicle.
A guess is the CKS (Crank Position Sensor) needs replacement. Part is $40-$60. Shop will charge $200 labor. I replaced mine in 30 minutes, + 15 minutes to clean the grease off my arm.
