The Primrose in Durham was literally THE most expensive daycare we looked at (and I looked at about 13 centers). I liked it, but it seemed VERY structured and very clean--a little institutional. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but in the end I decided that I wanted a more "organic" environment for my son, for lack of a better word. I've heard nothing but good things about Primrose, though.

In general they have a reputation of being very good and very expensive. I read it costs $2.6 to $3.2 million to open a Primrose school. Is there a Goddard school there. Those are also high quality but usually less expensive than Primrose.

My problem with Primrose is that it seems to stress instilling patriotism in kids (e.g. the importance of God, country, and family). I'd rather not have my child exposed to that sort of indoctrination as long as possible. I ended up choosing Goddard, which seemed to stress multiculturalism instead.

We have our son in one of the Primrose schools (Primrose School of Hilburn) and like it a lot. A good on-sight owner, very good staff and teachers, all of who are extremely friendly. It isn't cheap, though - $1100 a month for 2-3 year olds. Prices vary based on age - slightly more for younger children, and it goes down some as the children age. I have not found a heavy emphasis on God, country and family as jbognar did, but there is some (e.g., the teachers and children say grace before eating their meals). I like that, but then again my family attend church. If you are atheist or agnostic, then that might be a drawback. YMMV.

We also looked at Goddard at Brier Creek, which had just opened when we were looking. It is also an excellent school, with prices were on par with Primrose (I can't remember the actual prices, but the two were within $50 a month of each other a year ago). The school has a slightly different feel as compared to Primrose. Not better or worse, just a little different.

Hi,
I am jumping on this thread because we are looking at moving to Chapel Hill and if we do, I will be looking to put my daughter in a preschool also. Can someone recommend some good preschools in the area for no more than $4,500 or so a year? I would be looking at 3 half days by the way - no full time.

Any feedback on the Primrose at West Lake and/or the Primrose on Hwy 55 near High House Road? We are moving to Holly Springs and are on the waiting list for both of those (our daughter currently attends the Primrose at Hilburn and we love it). I'm curious if anyone has any experiences (good or bad) with the teachers at either of these locations.

We moved our child from Hilburn to West Lake when we moved. The schools are both excellent with minor differences between the two.

Hilburn - the owner and directors seemed to be a little more involved in the day to day activities and knew EVERY parent and child when they came through the door.

Westlake - You will be lucky to get a hello from the owner, director, or receptionist. They just always seem too busy to look up from what they are doing. We love the teachers here and our son tells us how much he loves them as well. The former director from Hilburn is in one of the toddler rooms.

Overall, we are extremely happy with Westlake!

Thumbs up We love Primrose at West Lake

Our daughter has been enrolled at the Primrose School at West Lake since they opened in October 2005, when she was 18 months old-
We feel it is worth every penny, and we sacrifice other things to allow her to attend such a wonderful school- she learns so much- beyond her colors, numbers and letters, etc to how to try to be a good person- it does not have a specific religious over/under tone, but acknowledges God at mealtimes- I think it is a great balance of education and loving life lessons from intelligent, highly qualified teachers in the cleanest preschool/daycare enviornment I have seen-

I think the owner/director/receptionist are always friendly and polite as well-
I am sure any parent would be very pleased with this Preschool!
