Cary or Nashville....
Help. Loved Cary, but Nashville is amazing too. Same $$ in Cary will get you so much more in Nashville suburbs. But giving up on my Cary dream. Can anyone tell me what they would do... We have had plans to move to Cary for two years, but the home prices are forcing us to reconsider... Any advice would be great. We need to live more comfortably, right now we struggle in FL. DH works from home, we could live better in TN and OK in NC...

All i can tell you is that our neighbors from Cary moved to a suburb of Nashville and they love it, although from what they've described to me, I don't think I would. Their lifestyle was different from ours, so I can only assume it would be comfortbale to some people and maybe not others. Can you visit both places?

My parents live in Nashville. There's a nice furniture store there. And that's where it ends, more or less. Can't see why anyone would move there on purpose. Unless, of course, there were financial reasons (job, cost of living, etc.). My parents moved there because my sister lives nearby, and they no longer wanted to live on the NC coast (tired of the hurricanes). For retired couples who are happy with their garden and the quiet life, why not? Otherwise, I would avoid.

Um, I don't think you've been to Nashville Joe. Downtown Nashville is beautiful and offers much more to do than Cary. Don't get me wrong, I live in Cary and it's great but I think Nashville has a bit more going on. The music scene, professional sports, and a very lively, great walking around downtown. Check it out next time you visit your parents.

My best friend and her husband moved to Nashville a number of years ago for a job opportunity. They didn't have high hopes, but they ended up loving the place! Since then, the husband's career opportunities have forced them to live in cities out west (LA, Seattle, etc.) but they are working towards returning to Nashville. They loved the landscape and the size of the city - not too big or too small.
On the other hand, I know tons of people who've moved to the Triangle & love it, but that's because I live here, too!
Troyty, I urge you to visit both areas and see which feels right for you. I think there are tons of reasons to love the Triangle and tons of reasons to love Nashville, but only you can know which is right for you.

Obviously, you have not been to Music Row, OpryLand, Cool Springs Mall etc. The only problem with Nashville is that it actually has worse traffic than Raleigh!

Nashville is well-known to have a vibrant music scene, but isn't it primarily country music? Not to offend anyone here, but something about country music makes it sound like nails on a chalkboard to me (especially the twangy stuff). Would I be in hell there?

Yes, primarily country music but it attracts all kind of genre of music. There are more alternative music concerts in Nashville than in the Triangle area. The choices are limitless.
I have kids going to school there and I know both of them detest country music but they are at a concert almost every other week.
