Amount of miles driven per year
County of residence
Age of drivers
Applicable discounts (2 car discounts, car alarms, etc.)
And most importantly, the underlying coverage limits on the vehicles (collision included, amount of liability, etc.)

Really, this can't be compared in the way you are trying to do. It's like asking "how much did you pay for your house."

i was just trying to get a ballpark idea of what people pay.. im not looking for specifics... id call an insurance company if i wanted exact numbers...

NJ is one of the most expensive states for car insurance, so there is a good chance pretty much anywhere else it'll be cheaper...

$700 for 2 cars, 1 driver. I still think it's too high, since my rate increased when I moved here from Northern VA.

<$40/month for 50/100 full coverage on a new Prius w/ $250 deductible IIRC

<$20/month for 50/100 liability only coverage on an old Volvo.

Prices are roughly 20% higher than they were just a few years ago. I was paying $15/month for my Volvo in VA.

From my research NC Farm Bureau is actually the least expensive option here, at least for us.

Less than what we paid in New Jersey, but it's not the cheapest here still. I drive a G550 and my partner drives a 535xi.

The thing is that you can go to any number of insurance company websites, enter your information and get quotes. Most of the time you don't need to enter any personal information other than an e-mail (and you can set up a "dummy" e-mail just for that purpose).

The numbers you get via this method will be a lot more informative than what anyone in this thread can tell you.

Just sayin' .....

50/100 is insufficient coverage. Needs to be 100/300 and backed by an umbrella liability policy if you have any assets. And no, I don't sell insurance.

One nice thing about NC auto laws is they essentially state that if there is ANY fault by the other person, there is no case for judgement. Example, driving down the street and a kid chases a ball between two cars and you clip the child, killing him/her. With a good lawyer, in NC, there would be no judgement. The child was partially at fault - you didn't run them down in their yard, they ran out in front of you.

In most states they will assign % faults, such as 50% for driver 50% for child. The child's family would then get 50% of the judgement. But like I said not so in NC. This helps keep car insurance costs down for everyone.

If you run them down in their yard you're probably going to be spending time in jail anyway on criminal charges, protecting your assets is now going to be the least of your worries...

IMO there are better ways of protecting your assets (if you really have a lot to lose) using other methods like certain trusts over buying a hugely expensive auto policy that will just encourage an increased judgement and still not cover a worst case scenario. Doing a little reading shows the average death benefit to be $4 mil. Average debilitating benefit to be in the $1 mil range.

I agree that 50/100 coverage can be viewed as low. But so is the state min of what, 30/60 or 25/50 (can't remember)? Most folks have that and in fact 1 in 7 on average don't even carry insurance.

To add, homeowners has a similar clause as well IIRC. Basically you have to have known about that rotten step that someone fell thru to be liable for injuries. Someone can attempt to sue for tripping over the blade of grass or slide on the sand piled up after the rain storm, but there won't be any judgement on it. Even a dogbite victim in NC can't recover anything if it's the dog's first attack.

As always do your own research and pray you never have to use any insurance.
