My husband and I are planning a visit to the Raleigh area within the next couple of weeks to see if it might be a contender for a place we might want to move to. We are looking for a 55 and older community with a budget of less than $275,000. Our main wishes are to be as close to the city as possible. (within 20 minutes) Any city in the Raleigh area can be considered, as long as it has major medical, shopping and various things to do. Could you give us the names and addresses of these communities so we could check them out when we visit?
there's only a few currently (few = < 10 in all of our area). They're also mostly within your price range. I'd be surprised if you couldn't go to realtor.com and use 55+ as a criteria to search.
Carolina Preserve - Morrisville/Cary/West Chatham COunty
Heritage Pines - Cary
Village at Aversboro - Garner
Carolina Pines(?) - there's an active topic here - that is Brier Creek/RDU Airport/Raleigh/Durham area

It's not Carolina Pines - it's Carolina Arbors in Brier Creek, Durham side.
That budget will be very limited in the two Del Webb communites. I don't know anything about the other two. We have a realtor who helped us search for this type of community in March, 2012, with a higher budget. There was little to choose from at the higher budget we had. 55+ is just not a big thing here. Looks like there are only 27 55+ communities in the entire state, and many of them are not age restricted, just marketed to a 'mature clientele.'
