Has anyone taken a beginner class at
Personal Defense & Handgun Safety Center on Tryon Road.
They have a beginner class that is taught by Chris Tilley.

I want to take a basic class as an introduction to firearms.
It's the first step I am taking to deciding on a gun for protection at home.
I will probably take other classes after the first to build on my
gun handling skills.

I want to be somewhere that has a comfortable vibe for a lady.

I am in North Raleigh, but a 30 min drive in any direction would be fine.

He's probably going to be one of the best bets in the area. In case you weren't aware Chris was on the TV show "Top Shot" which airs on History channel.

I took a basic class at Dryes Gun Shop in Bahama. They hold ladies only classes, taught by a lady, and it was very interesting and fun. Women from all over the triangle were there despite the distance. They are well known for their classes and their expertise. dryesgunshop.com.

I took a class last year with Daniel Nieters at Mindset Force Management -- I highly recommend him. Nieters is a sergeant with the Raleigh PD and an excellent instructor. You can expect a small class size (6 people), sound fundamental training from a police firearms instructor, and an increased confidence level that comes from having the right information and the right instruction.

My class was run by Chuck and Peggy Elrod. She does a good job of teaching from a woman's perspective, and he handles the field testing. They're in Wake Forest. Price was pretty good, too.
