Slapped up a few more shots on Flickr. (http://www.flickr.com/gp/7335553@N08/6LaYG3 - broken link)
All the photos in the world from WRAL or the N&O are hardly adequate to express the impact of a lake that is that low. Especially when it provides drinking water to a few hundred thousand people.

Mike,
I guess great minds think alike, I just got back from falls lake about 30 mintues ago and have a camera filled with pics as well. I was over by the dam and tail race area off of Falls of Neuse Road.

I really enjoyed your pics and the photo show.
Seeing the lake this low is very troubling.
Thanks, NRG
I wanted to go to the dam, too, but that was a stretch.
We went up Creedmor Road to Beaver boat launch and across Old Weaver Trail.
No photos at Beaver, looking right into the sun.
Only 1 ramp open, and about 6 boat trailers in the parking lot.
On a gorgeous day like this!
I was there yesterday and I too was shocked to see how low it was. I cycle around the lake each weekend and it's gets horribly low each time I see it.
The pictures are great eveyone. Thank you for the time and effort posting for us.
I saw some shots on TV this weekend from Lake Lanier in Georgia. It was even lower! Yikes! I haven't seen the photos of Lake Mead. I am going to go look for them on the web now.
The photos of Falls are far more alarming to me simply because the lake was full at the beginning of the summer. Lake Mead, as well as many other reservoirs in the desert SW, has been slowly dropping for about a decade now. I was on a houseboat on Lake Powell in fall of 2000 and there were calcified deposits 6' and higher above the waterline then. I saw the same thing when I went to Vegas and the Hoover Dam in 2001 on Lake Mead.
MikeJ & NRG - thanks for the pics. I was out around Falls this weekend, too, and there were a few spots where the air was miserably rank and musty.
