Article about Growth in Fuquay-Varina
newsobserver.com | Little Fuquay-Varina growing like weed
Interesting quote:
"They say Fuquay is the next Cary. I hope not," said Donna Friery, who owns two consignment shops on Broad Street. "In one sense, I hope so. And in one sense, I hope not."

"They say Fuquay is the next Cary."
Nonsense. Apex is the next Cary. And Holly Springs is the next Apex. And Fuquay-Varina is the next Holly Springs.

It really is growing like crazy out here. In Sept, FV had the most amount of home sales out of anywhere in the triangle and building permits were down in every town in the triangle except in FV and Cary. FV's growth rate is twice that of the general growth rate of Wake County. They call it "cary jr" now. Not sure if that is good or bad. And if you think that population wise, it will never catch up to Cary or apex, think again! 12K people living inside town limits which is used as the population number. However, there are appx 40K in total if you include the FV ETJ areas. So, if FV were to annex all their ETJ areas today, we'd already have over 40K people living here. That's more than the Holly Springs or Apex and already 1/3 the size of Cary.
Interestingly, FV is also the only municipality in the Triangle with almost unlimited growth potential due to A) a TON of land available for annexation and B) no restrictions on water supply as it is purchased from three different counties. That alone has some officials predicting that FV will someday be one the largest anchor cities here like Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill are now. Wouldn't that be nuts?! lol Whooda thunk it?!

yeah and a target! They say first come the roofs and then comes the retail. I'm sure we'll get cool stuff like that... someday. I am pretty impatient though!

Seems to me like no matter how large FV gets, it will still have nothing in common with Cary except traffic. Two opposite communities in my view....

where is the closest Barnes & Noble, walmart or target or mall to FV? we're considering looking there. Originally from Long Island NY, living in CT for 7 years and are soooo DONE with the northeast. ALSO, Is there a lot of mobile home parks in FV?

That is EXACTLY what I was going to say. lol. I think it's sad, I really liked Apex the way it was just a few years ago, having lived in Cary for 5 years before that, I thought Apex had a much better community feel and family friendly lifestyle than Cary. It used to be cheaper too!
