Plus I have done those navy showers on about 1/2 of the days this month or only a 2 min shower! i CANNOT SEE HOW WE COULD GO MUCH LOWER, THE GOV IS OUT OF HIS MIND!

urbywan,
225 gallons/day still seems kinda high. My wife and I averaged 89 gallons/day last month. And we work from home - so we're here all day using water. Do you have kids?

I don't know about the RDCH area, but in Pepsi has a bottling plant in Charlotte which uses nearby water to make it.

The biggest things that we've done to save water was to install a high efficiency front loader washer when we moved in. Also, we installed low flow shower heads. You can get them from the city of Durham for $3 a piece. The house already had a water efficient dishwasher or we would have replaced that too.
We do most of the other things mentioned. My hubby claims he's doing his part to save water by having VERY little hair to wash. So maybe a shave is in my future too.
The guy up the street still waters his lawn... he has a sign that says well water. I'm thinking of sneaking up there at night w/ my buckets to catch his water. I could use it to flush my toilets.

We have people here on the weekends, usually 2 additional adults. Add 8 days of 4 adults, so we average right around 100 gallons a person.

I honestly thought that 100 gallons / person /day was high because we use around 170 gallons / day for four people, but apparently that is about the US average (plus mine only includes inside water and we do water our grass).

It is actually called Navy showers because water on ships and submarines is in high demand. Turn the water on to get wet turn it off. Soap up. Turn water on to rinse. Shower done! No standing there with the hot water hitting you, get wet, lather, rinse you are done.

We're not in a water shortage in MA but wow, with two teenage boys who play sports, how do you get around the daily shower thing? Well I guess I'd make my kids shower in the school locker room (like I shower in the gym to save $$$ on our water bill!), but still..what about their sweaty, smelly clothes?
