Many of the over 55 communities allow up to 10% of their residents to be under 55. Is this true at Carolina Preserve at Amberly and other "over 55" communities? I'm a little under 55 so wondering.....

I believe their policy is that one person over 55 must live in the household, but my parents live there and I'll check.

I just did a aerial view of this community using Bing maps. Wow! They are really packed in like sardines. You can definitely hear your neighbor fart. Here it is for those curious. Bing Maps - Driving Directions, Traffic and Road Conditions

Yes. The old people like it so when they yell "help I've fallen and I can't get up" the next door neighbors can hear them!

Marry someone who's 55, and you can live there You won't be able to move in there by yourself until the magic Double Nickels.

Default Amberly a separate section of Carolina Preserve

Having just returned from Carolina Preserve (for the 2nd time), I'm fairly sure this is correct: There is the 55+ part of Carolina Preserve. The Amberly section is not age-restricted. It's right next door (seems like part of same community). CP has its own clubhouse (age restricted except for visiting grandchildren). The Amberly clubhouse is a separate facility with a playground, waterslide, etc. The folks at CP are entitled to use the Amberly facility (great if you have grandkids visiting), but the Amberly residents are not permitted to use the CP clubhouse. Not fair maybe, but we were told that CP contributes to the cost of Amberly clubhouse. The Amberly clubhouse also has nice gymnasium for the kids. My husband liked that because, even though he certainly qualifies for the 55+ section (where we would live), he is a lifelong athlete, particularly basketball and still likes to shoot with the "kids". We thought it was a nice combination, because we are a little concerned about being in a 55+ community and never coming in contact with anyone under age 50! I'ts nice to know you can wander over to Amberly and see young folks!

And, yes, I believe our "ambassador" who gave us the tour said that a certain percentage of residents can be 50 years old at CP.
