I have been to Lowe's, Stock Building Supply, and Capitol City Lumber and they all had essentially the same decorative wood trim choices. We are redoing the mantel in our bedroom and I am going for a very historic look. I need a LOT more choices. While my husband can make trim to look an way I want, it's always nice to just come home with an 8' piece already made.

So, any suggestions as to a place in town with a lot more choice? I am on the western side of Cary, but wouldn't mind driving around, if need be.

Thanks!

Do you have a router and router table? Your answer could be only a few router bits away.

I know, I know, we have a router and tons of bits. My husband is SUPER handy and he keeps saying it's easy (he made all the trim in the attic for around the doors and such), but I hate adding and adding to what he has to do. That's the problem with being super handy. There is no end to the to-do list; he can do it all! I will probably go to three more places, not find something suitable, and then just have him do it :-)

I don't have names to contact in NC but knew someone who made custom molding in NJ. I would find a local cabinet maker and ask if they have a custom molding machine. they can copy any molding you find. If nobody local makes it I bet they could direct you to a speciality lumber place.

Default This Old House ?

Norm Abrams of This Old House on PBS (now New Yankee Workshop) may be a good resource. Or this for ideas:

WOW! My wife has no issues with adding to things I need to do. You are the unicorn!
