Coming from new Orleans in 1989, we are not too bad with bugs comparatively.

Ants have been an annoyance this year and we put a big dent in them by sprinkling cinnamon powder in the areas they were entering from. Did better than our exterminator and raid spray.

I never knew that California has no bugs until clients of mine called to ask me if it was ok for her kids to touch the flying things with lights!!! She wanted to make sure they weren't poisonious!

She turned out to be a really crazy person! So...the bugs won't even live in California???

This just got me thinking... I'm from the DC area where we periodically had our cicada outbreaks every 7, 14, etc. years. I think this year is supposed to be another good brood emerging. Are they all that common here? They don't particularly bother me other than the noise so my question is more curiosity than anything.

Bugs bad in Raleigh? Don't believe so, compared to the coastal swamps or Minnesota.

Yes, plenty of cicadas. I think the DC bugs and the NC bugs are pretty much the same.

No, but I did have a long talk with one of my Boston Terriers about hunting, eating or bringing in the house live or dead squirrels or chipmonks crawling with fleas. That would be the same dog that recently chewed through or pulled out a bundle of wires on my riding mower trying to get to a chipmonk hiding under the gas tank

When I moved into a rented house here in Durham I sprayed every three or four weeks for nine months to stop the cockroaches. I still do, to keep them stopped.

I never set up my bed during that time because the roaches grossed me out. I slept in a sleeping bag on the floor. Now the bugs have abated and I've discovered that I kinda like sleeping on the floor....
