Hello, I will be taking an auditing position in the Raleigh area around the February time frame, which will consist of approximately 35% overnight travel auditing stores all over NC. Originally from Cleveland, I am extremely excited about finally getting out, and have heard good things about Raleigh being an "up and coming" area. I'm a 29 year old single male who enjoys fitness, and hopes to pursue an MBA or law degree in the area over the next few years (if I enjoy it).

I have over 6 years experience renting apartments, and from my findings, don't really care much for the mega apartment complexes / contractors. However, if anyone has any recommendations on truly exceptional communities, I would be open to them.

The current complex that I live in only has about 20 townhomes, and is managed by a very small local home building company. However, just because it is not big budget, does not mean it is not nice. The townhomes feature:

* 2 Bedroom / 2 Bath
* 10 years old
* 1100 Squre Feet
* Stacked washer and dryer in unit
* 1 Single Care Garage Per Unit
* 15 minutes to major malls, dining, and shopping and fitness centers
* Safe
* A bit off the beaten path
* $750 - 850 a month

What area would be my best bet for a place like this? Since I will be travelling a lot, I don't have a need to be "right in the middle of it all", so to speak, but I don't want to be out in the boonies, either.

I check Craigslist regularly, but was wondering if anyone else here had any inside info on it. I was also wondering if the ratings on apartmentratings.com were just exaggerated? By reading about all the breaks-ins, vandalism, loud noises, bug infestations (cockroaches?!!), and cheaply built apartments in that area, one would think he/she was looking at apartments in Detroit by mistake...

I lived in the Hedingham Golf and Athletic clubs townhomes and while this is a bigger community.. I found them quite nice. They all don't have washers and dryers but I rented a set from a company for about 25 bucks a month, until I moved..they do have an an athletic club,golf course,pools, tennis courts, etc
You might want to check out their website at The Official Hedingham HOA Website
Good luck in your hunt

Our home in Northridge Crossings might work. There are about 200 units from 1BR - 3BR. Spacious and low crime. No garages.

On site gym + numerous nearby centers. Good mgt. Nine years old.

Apartmentratings should be used to look for trends. If many reviews report an issue, it's probably accurate. One out of line review may be someone who got evicted.

Default Hedingham Townhouse

I rented a townhouse in Hedingham and really liked it. Be aware that the wall between the large bedrooms in the twin-home townhouses in VERY thin. They should have put the walk-in closet and the bathroom on this common wall, but they didn't so you can hear snoring, etc. Otherwise the place is very quiet. You can find nicer units for rent on Craig's List. The apartment area is louder and less private ( or so I've heard). Good luck!!!

I think your price is a little low to have a garage... I think our townhome price is pretty competitive, 1150sqft 2bed 2.5bath, no garage but available for extra and $855 a month (but that includes the washer and dryer rental) with Ticon Properties. I wouldn't be too picky about stackables though, most townhomes have a utility closet with space for side-by-side standard w/d. When we first moved in the rent was much lower, around $780 but times have changed and demand has caused prices to rise. Most places have a small fitness center for the community but if you want something bigger then they are all over, should be easy find a gym in proximity to almost anywhere. Oh and I've never seen a cockroach in our current place. In all of my previous apartments we had cockroaches from time to time, but infrequent and sort of comes with the territory.

As one person mentioned, check out Ticon Properties. They have a website.
