Y'all helped me out last time, so I'm asking again. I've got to take my mother back to the specialist at the Duke Adult Bone Marrow Clinic Tues 4/16, appt is 8:30 AM. This time, I'm booking us a room at the Sleep Inn on Page Rd (right off I40) becasue I don't fancy leaving her house at 5:30 AM and fighting traffic from Johnston Co on in to Durham.

What's the best way to go, and how long should I allow? Clinic is on Pratt Drive, off of Fulton St. She will want to be there no later than 8 to allow time to park and get in the office. How is 147 headed into Durham in the morning?

You will hit some traffic at that time so allow some extra minutes to alleviate her anxiety. You need to take the Hillandale Road exit (15B) off 147 then turn into parking garage 3. The Adult Bone Marrow Clinic is in a clinic building adjacent to this parking garage. Although the actual mileage is about 13 miles, you can get some gridlock in a few spots (Durham is growing!). I suggest leaving the hotel parking lot between 7:20 and 7:25 to give 35 to 40 minutes for the drive. I have driven this route for 40 years--it used to be about 15 minutes but now takes about 25. About once a week, it takes 35 so I would err on the longer side. Good luck with you visit!

Woo hoo, I lucked out, and they changed her appt to 3:00! I'll just head down to her house the night before (Lumberton), and we will head up around noon. However, I have a feeling we may be visiting more often (this is our second visit), so I may need to keep your advice for later. Thanks so much!!!!

Sending you both prayers for the journey--literal and medical.

Thanks a lot! We are going back to see if it's time to start back on chemo for her multiple myeloma. She's too old for a transplant, but that's where the dr's office happens to be.
