I remember hearing we were going to get hit 2-3 yrs ago but don't remember us having issues. I fear June bugs more! Those things stink up your yard when they drop dead. And they love fly at you...yuck! I can handle snakes but not a June bug.

I remember that brood also. They thrive in older neighborhoods with oak trees in undisturbed soil. If you are in an area with new construction, there won't be many.

There is a brood somewhere every year. This year it has been reported as a 17 year cycle centered in New Jersey.
We had a few near Fuquay three years ago. No to worry.

Yep, we just moved to MD and the very first summer were greated by those things. Yuck, yuck, yuck! Chirping was louder than rush hour traffic on the beltway. Fortunatelly, they didn't stick around for long, as I recall.

This was on the national news this morning. Talking about the cicadas invading as soon as the soil reaches 64' on the east coast.

According to this map, we shouldn't get too many here as compared to areas north of us.

I had oodles of them last year. every day my little girl and I would go outside to see how many we would find. I live downtown and there are an abundance of oak trees everywhere.
