I'd kill for a Whole Foods in this neck of the woods... but alas, all those diggers and dozers are building yet another Harris Teeter at the corner of 54 and 751--right down the street from the existing Teeter (with a Kroger's across the street). Yes, yes... I know the Teeter on 54 is small and not nearly as nice as the one on MLK, but seriously. Can't we get some different grocery options down here?

I haven't heard about any other area plans. With the whole LNT/CostPlus/BabiesRUs/BestBuy/OldNavy emporium nearly full, and plans to build a new mega-church just down the road, I'm not sure how much more space there is for additional retail building in the immediate Southpoint vicinity. I think a home improvement store would do great in that area... but I'm not sure where it would go. Further west? Like closer to 751?

St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church is building over on 751 near that new Harris Teeter.

I just read that Walmart was building a new location near the Kroger by Hope Valley Farms, but also that it was on hold for approvals.

I can't remember what church... New Hope? New Life? Something like that... there's a big sign up on Fayetteville Road (east side of street) where future site will be.

Renaissance Shopping Center is great. I do wish there was a better grocery store on this side of 40---besides Super Target. There is a new store though called A Sea of Learning all the way at the end of Renaissance Center past Old Navy that carries quality toys and educational products. I can always find what I'm looking for gift-wise for the young ones. They also have teacher supplies as well.

Oh and Brandywine is a great wine store with tastings and a fairly comprehensive selection with good prices.

Well it's not in Southpoint, but, in the area. Fresh Market is going to be opening later this Spring on Hwy. 54 in Chapel Hill just up the road from Meadowmount. If you're on I-40 that's just two exits from Fayetteville Road. It'll be in the location where the HT was before another was opened in MM.

Thanks for the info, Hula. I was wondering what might move in there.

I imagine that the Harris Teeter at Hwy 54 & Fayetteville will close once the new one opens. It'll be interesting to see what moves into that space.

According to staff at the present Harris Teeter, plans are to keep both stores open. I will be surprised (pleasantly, I might add) if they are able to generate enough traffic to keep both stores open, since the new store will be further away from us.

I heard via a HT staff member that they are keeping the old store open so a Trader Joes, Fresh Market, or Whole Foods would not come in and be competition. Makes me want to boycott HT.
