Fearrington Village might be a good spot to check out, too. There should be plenty of one level homes there. They also have some shops (bookstore, garden shop) and restaurants, but it's out in between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro so no downtown to walk to. Liney 59,

Here is the local mountain biking forum and information page for the triangle area. You can post up there or just look around to see where the local trails are.

Dang it! That over 50 neighborhood off Barbee Chapel Rd is "Chapel Wood" not "Chapel Ridge". Too many durn "Chapel" something or others around here.

Thanks for the replies so far - very helpful information!!! We are on our way right after work today and hope to have a productive, fun weekend!! It was 35 degrees at my house this morning so hoping to see some blue skies and sunshine and a little bit warmer temperature than that!!!!

Wow. We just recently returned from our three day visit to the triangle region. To say I am overwhelmed is an understatement!!! Places I thought I would love - I wasn't so thrilled about. Places I had kind of counted out - I actually loved! My thoughts are these....Hillsborough is quaint, cute, very historic and too unaffordable - even at a 300K budget, Pittsboro seemed way too far out and too isolated, the same for Clayton - and the downtown in Clayton wasn't too impressive, Fuquay-Varina had a nice downtown and surrounding area - the same for Holly Springs. My favorite by far was Apex.....great downtown - housing within walking distance, it seemed like a vibrant community.

My question is what are good areas of Apex to live in (or where should you NOT live)? We don't want to spend more than 300K and want to be within as reasonable walking distance to downtown as we can (if not walking then biking). And does the American Tobacco Trail run through Apex or no?

Thanks in advance!
