Last week of school ! Broke arm so no swimming.sleep away camp! Any thing anybody know of beside free/cheap movie, She is 9 and we have 7 boy just trying t fill summer! You can only do so much reading? ( we had a great week at the beach planned ;( ! Hope it in cast for only 4-6 not 7-8 !Thanks for any ideals !
You can get a cast you can take in the water if it's okay with your doctor. I've never had to use one, but I've seen them. Just google "waterproof cast for arm". I think they make cast covers as well as some casts themselves can be made waterproof. Worth asking your ortho about.
Museums? Planetarium? Hiking? Maybe go to the mountains instead of the beach?
ETA: I'm sure most doctors have had to deal with kids with casts wanting to go swimming in the summer, so he or she should be able to advise on that.
Bummer! It's hard enough to keep healthy kids from losing their minds but to have one in a cast must be miserable. Does she enjoy crafts? there are lots she can do with one hand. I have a partially paralyzed left hand and I still knit and crochet so she might like that. Do you have Wii? lots of one handed sports. Computer games, Sims something my daughter makes houses and furnishes them with that game.
cooking lessons with Mom? I made up a list of French cooking terms and we demonstrated them all one summer. A great way to teach language as well as cooking.
Would your local animal shelter welcome someone to play with puppies and kittens or to brush calm pets? Day trips to museums? Art Galleries?
I just asked my 11 year old and she said "Just everyday activities with some modification". LOL
I would have asked for the waterproof cast. My son had one for his leg and it worked out great. Why no sleep away camp? Kid could still participate in the other stuff going on. Museums, movies, art classes, etc. what does the kid like to do?
I picked up Carolina Parent and Town of Cary Parks and Rec brochures at a store recently and there were lots of activities / events, even a cooking class for the kids (although depends if it's a dominant arm). Maybe some volunteering? There are also lots of different interest groups on Meetup, maybe you could even make new friends.
Too bad you didn't get a waterproof cast; typically not covered by insurance, yet was only $35 extra. Helped tremendously with showering, yet alone swimming.
