OK, my husband is coming home this week from 15 months spent in Iraq. He'll only get to spend a few days in the area before he has to go back to the base that he's stationed at in NY. It's a complicated, pain in the butt situation that I won't go into (gotta love the army), but I'm looking for suggestions on how to spend a fun/romantic weekend with my husband. We live in NW Raleigh, but we can travel a little. I've heard the Melting Pot is a good "date night" type place. Anywhere else? Not necessarily restaurants, but fun places to go for 20somethings trying to make the most of their first weekend together in a year. Thank you!

I'm afraid I don't live in the Raleigh area....yet. So I cannot help you with your question. But I do want to thank you and your husband for your service to our country. I thank you both every day for my freedom. Thank you for your sacrifice and I wish you both the very best. I hope you have the most romantic time - however short it is.

THANK YOU!!

Aww... thank you so much. It isn't an easy lifestyle but I knew what I was in for when I married him, and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

If you guys like to enjoy a drink hit the Wild Turkey lounge in the Angus Barn. It is located upstairs. It can be busy but has a great atmosphere. Wood Barn look with red leather couches, fire place, a TV or two for the sports nut who needs a fix. Nice wine list (I like the Fess Parker Frontier Red). Also have free complimentary cheese and crackers and relish plate with olives, celery, pickles, peppers ect... If you go closer to the holidays they have killer Christmas decorations and it will get you in the spirit. Check out the antique gun collection on display and the walk in humidor (Oh yeah...the do allow smoking if that is an issue).

If you are looking for a quiet place to grab a glass of wine try The Grape in Cameron Village. On Saturday nights they usually have live music by some guy playing jazz Xylophone! Not too loud so it is easy to talk. Wine is a bit expensive, but good place for a drink.

During the Day if it is sunny I recommend a walk through the Sarah P Duke Gardens in Durham.

If you like to swing dance and want a non-club atmosphere check out the Raleigh Elks Lodge at the intersection of Leadmine & Millbrook Roads in North Raleigh. The Carolina Dance Club holds lessons there and has a dancing party afterwards every Sunday night. I think it is $8 a person. Mixed age crowd, but last time I was there there was decent representation from the 20-30 somethings.

Angus Barn is really nice. Fearrington House in Chapel Hill is really romantic as well. Bloomsbury Bistro, Margaux's, April and George and Five Star.

Duke Garden is a good idea. After being in the desert for a year, I'm sure he will be soaking in our lush vegetation. It is a very nice large garden and it's free. If you are into animals, the NC zoo in Asheboro is a really nice trip.
