In the last couple of months, I have had so many listings with broken window seals. And it seems that every house I show, has so many of them instead of just one or two, like I remember!
I don't remember ever seeing so many. I'm not just talking about homes that are 20 years old. I'm seeing it in newer homes, as well.
I'm wondering...is it the crazy weather we are having? One day it is 60 degrees and the next day it is 90 degrees...is that it?
Anyone have any idea as to why this is happening in our area?
My window guys just blame it on homes that are "too tight" or power washers that hit the windows in just the wrong place.
EVERY DAY, someone from my office sends out an email, asking for window repair guys!
I am not sure what it is, but we had a home built in the 80s and never had a problem with any of the windows but within a short while after the 'earthquake' we had last year, we noticed the 'seal' on one of our windows broke and fogged up the window.
in the new homes, I'd consider it to be from house settling and torquing the window slightly.
Vicki, I'm going to have nightmares about this! If this happens in our new home anytime soon, I might need to see a shrink!
The best thing about buying a brand new home is the warranties!!!
Years ago, I used to buy a brand new home, live in it for 4 years and move on to another brand new home. I NEVER had problems with windows, paint, roof, etc.!!! Now that I've been in my house for 22 years...I've re painted, re roofed, replaced appliances, including hvac and now...I'm noticing 2 windows with broken seals!!!

So, any recommendations for window repair guys?? We are selling our townhome and just had our home inspected (it was built in 2006) and according to the inspection report, "Insulating glass seals have failed resulting in condensation, staining, streaking and/or fogging noted between panes of glass. A window repair specialist should evaluate and determine best course of repair".
Excellent! When I Googled "window repair raleigh nc" they are the first company that came up, so I'm glad to find someone that has used and recommends them.
Do you remember the cost? We only have 2 windows that were noted on the inspection report as needing repairing. I plan on getting a quote anyways but just wondering ballpark of what to expect.
I venture some of the issues are because many of the new the newer builder supplied windows are of much poorer quality than the older products.
Our community has severe soil subsidence but the window seals are not failing. We're about 12 years old.
