Curious if anyone has driven a boat to I-85? As many times as I've been on the lake since the lake's inception the furthest I've driven a boat is to the point at which you turn left to go to I-85 and Sandling beach would be on your right. I've always been told it's super shallow and a lot of submerged timber. According to the map of Falls lake the depths are shallow but should be able to navigate.

I have spent a lot of time on Falls and would never consider it...how much do you care about your boat?

I remember aerial photos when the lake fell below 245 feet a few times. The upper lake looked really ugly. I don't know that I would trust depths on maps unless they are recent. The original channel of the Neuse River had lots of twists and turns, and it wasn't wide to begin with. Canoe territory unless the lake is very high, it seems to me.

From time to time. Falls Lake almost dries up. You might take that into consideration, since when it refills, the underwater topography will no doubt have been affected.

If you insist on doing it, NOW is the time. You'll rarely ever find the lake any higher than it is this week.

^True but now is also when there is a lot of floating timber that has been picked up from the shore.

I'm not saying it's something I'm dieing to do. I've just always been curious. I see there is a boat ramp close to I-85 so it can't be but so bad.
