The sky will feel like it's falling for those who aren't prepared from living a life of saving and thrift. Massive inflation followed by massive deflation after our benevolent foreigners completely turn off the credit spigot.

All you have to do is change the way employment, GDP, home sales, mean prices are calculated. Did you know that inflation only rose by less than 1% last year? I'm very relieved to hear that good news.

Steel, corn, maybe a few other things.

Our manufacturing based economy is definitely debased. Others will try to convince you that we can just be an information and service based economy and pay our bills that way.

If imports slow down because of a debased dollar and defaulted debt, where will people get their goods?

If energy becomes too expensive, just put in price controls. That always works well. Ask any bread merchant of the former Soviet Union or gas station owner in the 70s and they'll tell you.

Steel?? Have you been to Bethlehem PA? Its all gone. I was under the impression that most of our steel comes from the far east.

At least the price of gas will be fixed. It'll just be a matter of whether you can get some :/ .

Even numbered plate? You get gas on Mondays and Wednesdays. Odd plate? Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I was too young to remember. My parents didn't think it was that bad, but they grew up in communist Hungary with rationing and conserving being quite the norm. Those used to the consumer party (Gen-X/Yers) will really find it difficult to bear.
