Just before I moved here someone told me about a store back in Cincinnati called "Home Emporium".

How I wish I had found this place years ago when I was a first time home buyer! They had all sorts of things, from cabinets to flooring, sinks, vanities, countertops, some furniture, toilets, light fixtures, frame artwork....you get the idea. Just a huge warehouse with a few employees, stuff stacked anywhere it would fit - nothing fancy.

The stock was priced to move, and that it did. Inventory was constantly changing, and you couldn't count on anything being in stock, you just had to either know what you were looking for and get lucky, or just browse for inspiration.

I've looked to see if it was a chain - and it is, but it looks to me like the closest store is in TN.

Their web site

Is there anything similar in this area?

A lot of people find this to be cheaper than Home Depot and Lowe's: http://stocksupply.know-where.com/stockbuildingsupply/cgi/site?site=04001&address=%3a%3a%3a%3aNC%3a%3a&desig n=default&lang=en&option=&mapid=US (broken link)

Try habitat for humanity off of Capital Blvd. I took a bunch of builder-grade light and plumbing fixtures and donated them there. They have a huge warehouse full of stuff and it supports a good cause.

I can't imagine this is the case - but I wouldn't be taking anything away from someone who might need it?

Nope, we donated alot of stuff to habitat when we redid our house. They use what they can and sell the rest. They want you to spend your money there.
