My husband also drinks alot of water. We just signed up for water delivery with a company, can't remember the name-really helpful huh! For $20 month, I think we get 6 5-gallon bottles and a hot/cold water cooler. I can ask him about it later tonight when we get home from work if you like. We have used the pur system in the past but are more interested in convenience now.

Whole Foods have an RO system. Two types. 39 cents a gallon. Go to the Cary store with empty jugs and you're all set.

Don't know if it's worth the drive for you but check here: Find A Spring Even better than RO water - water straight from underground aquifers.

Tap water here does contain some red-ish dirt. Just an FYI. Where my faucet leaks in a bathroom I see a red stain.

We have well water and a filter where it enters the house. My landlord came to fix some things and he stated our well is 250 feet deep and is very fresh. However, my husband insists on bottled water, even though he is the one putting the filter on.

Feel like many supermarkets here have water machines just outside, in the lobby if there is one, or near the front of the store. Even the somewhat sketchy Food Lion around the corner from me has one outside..30 cents a gallon.

We have water delivered by Crystal Springs. Signed up for it several months ago at Costco. The 5 gallon jugs cost a bit over $5/apiece and we rent a dispenser that serves up cold and hot water and hides the jug. The hot water is hot enough to make coffee and tea.

We find that we are drinking more water now than when we were when we were filtering tap water and it couldn't be more convenient.

We had some similar issues. We just decided to go the bottleless water cooler route. We got one of those models that have a filter with it. It definitely helped out with our local waters. Some great ones are at keystonewater.com.

Walmart has a reverse osmosis water dispenser. We use it for brewing beer.
