Friends of mine who live in the Raleigh area have told me that there are challenging things going on with the school systems in the area. I've seen this sentiment echoed on this site. I believe that many would be very interested in hearing your personal story regarding your experiences (good and bad) with elementary and high schools in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, etc.

Umhh... RDU is the airport. Which schools systems are people supposed to discuss?

I just meant the area in general. I edited the original post.
(BTW I was using RDU like some cities have done in describing themselves (PDX (Portland), RVA (Richmond)..)

Well, if you have a specific school in mind you can use this link. Not sure how anyone can answer on a whole for the area.

District Search Results Page

For what it's worth, my kids are at Salem Elementary and we are satisfied with the staff and subject matter.

I don't think people can comment with authority about a school system they're not involved in. You'd be better off tailoring your question for each of the 6 different school systems in the Triangle (Wake, Johnston, Durham, Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Orange County, Chatham).

Too much emphasis on test scores and too many mega type A parents who buy into it, Other than that, no complaints. We are in Wake County. Moved here from one of the most highly rated school districts in NY and kids were a bit behind. Glad I'm not paying $14K in taxes for that anymore.

I'm not sure how to respond since our original base school was awful and our current magnet school is spectacular.

I have 4 children that all graduated from WCPSS. One went to ECU, one went to FAU (Florida Atlantic Univ.), one went to UNC-CH and one is currently at NCSU.

They got a great education. Middle school was a bit crappy for the girls (too much drama). High School was good for all as they were all in honors classes. Youngest graduated 2 years ago.

We had a great experience with Wake County School System. Our one daughter went through at Hunter, Ligon and Broughton. She graduated from UNC-CH and is now 25 and presently sowing some wild oates somewhere in Central America
