From what I have seen, Smartphones are grouped into Android, Apple, MS/Windows, BB and "other". I was just quoting the stats I heard on Clark Howard where Android had 80+ % market share.
Restating my question in an Apple only environment, what "breathtaking features" (it has to be that to stand in line at 3AM) are on the new phones? I did see a post about the fingerprint reader for corporate applications, but in that case, I assume they are buying the phone. If I had a v4 phone, I would wait a week and buy an like-new iPhone 5 from someone that upgraded to a 5c or 5s.
Why do people stand in lines for anything?
I'm a night owl. I'll try to do a late-night online order, maybe. Not gonna stand in line at 3am myself, but that's just me.
In previous years, I've preordered for delivery on launch day. That's my preference. I don't need people to back up my data, set up my phone, etc.
I do not care for standing in lines. Too impatient.
I will buy the new iPhone, just like I do every year. It's a "me" thing.

Question for those that know - I downloaded the Apple Store app and noticed it allows in-store pick up. So theoretically you could use that at 3am Friday to pre-order one, then go to the store later that day to pick it up in person. Or does it not quite work that way?

I have heard that you will be able to do that also. The stores will probably be crazy all day, but I was going to try that one also....

Friend supposedly just called the apple store and they said pre-orders done using the app will be for shipping ONLY and not for in-store pick up. So I guess not.
Reserved two 32g 5Ss yesterday at Target (Morrisville). We are #10/11 on the waiting list, but I didn't ask how many of the nine were AT&T or VZW. Costs us nothing to get on the list and they will email us when available for pickup (possibly Friday morning).

Wow, didn't know this was even something they did. I'm going to do that today.
I wouldn't count on much stock at the Targets and Walmarts of the world. It's usually pretty skimpy and they usually don't even have every color/capacity/carrier combination. And the iPhone 5s launch supplies look to be even tighter than usual. Hopefully #10/11 gets you something on launch day, but would not be at all surprised if your selection is very limited.
It certainly might be worth pursuing for some, but if you definitely want one on launch weekend, I wouldn't put all of my eggs in that basket.

Agreed.
I would never go to Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc on launch day.
Apple Store or carrier store is going to be the best place to snag one, with Apple Store being the obvious leader.

anyone have recommendations for quieter Verizon stores to try?
The one in Hillsborough on NC-86 at I-85 tends not to be overrun.
