Hi all! I need the "perfect" gift for a boy who just had a Bar Mitzvah. He is close to me, yet I do not know him that well. I was wondering if there are any Jewish or Judaica stores nearby that I could pick something up for him. I am interested in a ring of some sort - does anyone know where I could find something like this?

As you may be able to tell I'm not Jewish, so any suggestions on what else I could get him would be wonderful!

Thanks so much!

I don't know of a gift store, only a kosher/israeli store in Durham. You probably aren't interested in getting him some kosher beef, are you?

Maybe you could email the Chabad House for UNC/Duke and someone there might be able to help you?

Chabad of Durham and Chapel Hill and Duke University is one of the focal points of Jewish life at Duke University.

I have heard of the Sisterhood gift shop at the Beth Meyer synagogue in raleigh. The link is: Beth Meyer Synagogue, Raleigh, NC - Sisterhood (broken link)

maybe if they don't have what you are looking for they can help you find another place to look!

Just an option that you may not be aware of and/or because I realize this may seem a bit distasteful to some but the truth is...money -- whether in the form of a savings bond or a check is pretty standard. Sometimes we'll give the youngster something we think they'll like now, a token gift, in addition to that -- a nice check.
Kids usually will put this money in an account and use it to buy a car or use it for their education.

From what I understand, money is a traditional bar mitzvah gift, as are books about Judaism and certain ritual objects. I believe multiples of $18 are considered auspicious by Jews.
