Hey golfers,

Just wondering what the best public golf practice areas in the triangle are:

-Grass range
-Putting green
-Chipping green/short game area

Having just moved from LA, I'd have to drive 45-60 minutes to get a decent one - what's around?

And hey, if any CDF golfers want to get together for a game, I'd be up for it - I'm a 4 handicap.

One of the better ones is Knights Play in Apex. Grass tees most of the time, putting green and a par three course.

Hey! I'm a FORE! handicap, too...
And I second the nomination of Knight's Play. Pleasant chip and putt course...

Thanks for this one - I will have to check it out. What about full-service facilities - you know, the upscale type courses that are like a country club for a day - restaurant, lounge, 18 hole championship course - sometimes I like to practice for a few hours then go play twilight on a full 18

Most of the courses around here with nice restaurants are private (Prestonwood, Brier Creek, Raleigh Country Club, etc.) but there are a few semi-private ones with decent food (more than just hot dogs). All of these below have food, good practice facilities and nice golf courses:

The Preserve
Chapel Ridge (this is in Pittsboro, but WELL worth the drive)
River Ridge
Eagle Ridge
Crooked Creek
Lochmere

BTW, I don't get to play a whole bunch, but I'd surely be up for a game sometime if you can sneak out during the week this spring or summer. I'm a 1 handicap and current 2-time club champion at my course. I think I've played every course around here several times over the years, so I can certainly give you some good recommendations.
