Backyard pit in Durham is very good. If you're willing to travel to Raleigh, about 20-25 minutes from my Apex location, the Pit in Raleigh is imo the best bbq around. If you insist on staying in Apex I would say Danny's is best bet

Danny's is good food, but it is not authentic NC 'cue. If that's what you want, here's the list:

Allen & Son on Hwy. 86 between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough. 30 minutes from Apex.
Backyard BBQ on Hwy. 55. Durham address, still close to Apex, maybe 20 minutes.
Clyde Cooper's. Downtown Raleigh.
The Pit. Downtown Raleigh. Upscale restaurant & pricing, but pig is delicious.
Barbecue Lodge. Mini-city area of Raleigh on Capital Blvd. About 25 minutes from Apex via I-540.
Smokey's on Hwy. 54 / Morrisville. A bit over-rated. 'Cue is average and sides are below average, imho.

There are more but these would be my choices. I am a barbecue junkie. I bleed sauce.

Regards,
Streamer1212

I was with you until the sauce comment

A little OT since it's not near Apex, but I drove to Dudley, NC yesterday and experienced Grady's BBQ. Was totally worth the drive!!!!!!

We liked the Pit, but I wouldn't say it was the best we have ever had. Thanks for the tip on the Smokehouse in Fuquay; will definitely check it out!

I went to Dixie Belle's tonight. A sign at the door says "Closed for good."
