the term is still very much in use all over the country- my son was tow headed for his first 4 years. Alas he hasn't had much hair of any color since he turned 25.

And, as it happens, more than a few tow-headed youths in North Carolina and beyond have been known to enjoy a little flax hemp from time to time. Probably just a coincidence, though...

My family had the same experience......tow headed at birth, some of us turned dark brown, one sister and my brother turned dish water blonde...Thanks.
