What's the cost of daycare in your area? I'm in Long Island, NY and paying 257 a week. I plan on moving next year and would like to get an idea of what to expect when I get down there.
I would rather have my daughter in a center than a home daycare, please give me your opinion on what's out in your area. Which one would you prefer?
I pay $197/week for a 2-year old (in Durham). I think that's about average for here.
We started out in an in-home setting, but it really didn't work for us. We're in a larger center now (with a preschool) and we are all much, much happier.
Once you know what area you'll be in, get yourself on some waitlists asap. Waits for daycare around here are pretty crazy, so the sooner you can get on some lists, the better.
I run a small in home daycare/preschool. Right now I have two children who are with me full time. I charge $150.00 a week. I did a lot of research on childcare before I moved down from LI last year. The prices for day care centers are about the same. I think in home providers charge a little less here.
Hi! We're in the same boat and too are finding wait lists to be a common theme in that area. If you are happy with the childcare options you have and don't mind making a recommendation we'd love to get the information.

Here in Chapel Hill, you're definitely looking at no less than $1000 a month for an infant, and top notch centers are that high even for toddlers! I had sticker shock when I started investigating child care costs.
My two year old has been with her grandmother during the day since my husband and I both had our turns with leave, and we are ready to put her in preschool, but I had absolutely no idea how difficult it is in my area to find openings. I can't speak for the rest of the Triangle, but in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, you have to get on lots of waiting lists and just wait it out. Maybe it's different in Durham and Wake County?
