There was recently a post from a person who could not find a non-kill shelter for a lovely ginger cat. Ginger cats are quite desirable among cat lovers and I wonder if putting his picture on Craigs List under Lost and Found or Pets wouldn't have helped to find a home. If that fails, there is a wonderfully kind and compassionate group called IAR (Independent Animal Rescue) which is very careful in placing animals. Not only is the animal kept in a foster home for quite a while but the adopting parent is visited to make sure that it's safe for the animal. All of their animals are given a physical exam, neutered and vaccinated prior to adoption. If it's a cat, it's litter box trained before adoption. I have a lovely IAR ginger who used the litter box an hour after she was adopted. I received emails and phone calls for a couple of weeks to make sure that all was going well. I'm now an enthusiastic supporter of this organization.

It looks like their web site is Independent Animal Rescue, Durham NC. It would be nice if they would link to the Form 990 on their web site instead of having to go look up it elsewhere.

They look like a good group. It is nice to see they take no salaries. Do you know what their expenses are? They show $133k as Fees for Services, Other.

The least expensive and easiest thing we can do to save animal lives is not to eat them.

Do we really have to call orange cats "ginger" now? It's bad enough we've taken to calling redheaded humans that.

I'd like my meat to be raised and killed humanely but I'm not going to be a vegetarian. I do have some standards. I eat meat but I won't eat veal or Kobe beef. I tried being a vegetarian once and it didn't work for me. Maybe you should insist that all pets be put on a vegan diet?

I call mine an orange tabby. I've had two and they are fantastic cats. One would come when I whistled. Another has a lot of endearing behavior. I like the personality.
