New Bern is a neat area to visit. Plenty to see there with the Governor's Palace, historic churches, Pepsi Birthplace, bear statues all over down decorated in different ways, etc.

I vote Wilmington too. Fun beach shops to look at, good restaurants. My daughter would love Myrtle too, its a little more busy, but with better shopping!

Is there a Great Wolf in Asheboro? I just know of the one near Charlotte in Concord.

My vote is Wilmington. If not that then the mountains might be nice, but most are more than 2 hrs. Might be able to get to Hanging Rock in that time frame.

BTW, Both my kids have gone to the zoo this year on school field trips.

12 is probably getting to be a little old for Great Wolf Lodge....mine is 12 and she's done with that (especially with just her parents).

No, but Asheboro is easy to hit on the way back. Last time we were at the GW we took back roads to Asheboro and hit the zoo on our way home.
