Leaf blowers probably violated Raleigh's Sunday noise ordinance that used to be enforced. You know we lost our super motor speedway for good to that noise ordinance years ago

I don't have much grass, but I do have a push mower. I love those things and if I had more grass I'd use it in a heartbeat. Used to mow the steep bank of my parents' lawn with one back in the 70s, too. I'd gladly rake and use a push mower.

Leaf blowers have really only relatively recently become popular. People got along fine 20-30 yrs ago w/o them. It doesn't take that long to rake and it's much better for your health and the environment and your neighbors' ears.

Exactly!

If we had time and didn't need a lawn service, I would rake.

I loved to rake when I was a kid. Our lawn guys now are here and gone in less than 30 minutes and we have huge front yard. I know my neighbors on each side aren't home at 2-3 pm on Thursdays and I feel glad about that. One of my neighbors cranks up the leaf blower and mower at 9am on Saturdays. Thanks, man!

Wow, what bunch of blowhards we have on this forum. I had no idea we were such a cranky lot. I love the old "we managed to survive before leaf blower" comments. That could pretty much be said for every modern convenience.

If only there was a way to redirect all the hot air from this thread, we could harness that to blow all the leaves away....silently and quickly...allowing us to move on to the next ridiculous thing to complain about.

I'm off to start a thread complaining about dryer vents... Why can't people hand wash and air dry their clothes!?

Next time, spend and hour and a half and rake BOTH yards!

I have over 200 trees, and WILL NOT rake it!

All I can say is most of y'all wouldn't like having me as your neighbor. I bought the biggest commercial size leaf blower I could get and I also have a twin cylinder riding mower....noisiest things you've ever heard. But I also have 3/4 acre to take care of which can take several hours even with the power equipment. So bring them rakes on over to my house and I'll sip some cold iced tea while you take care of all those leaves for me.

Call me crazy but on Monday mornings when the landscapers in the neighborhood are out there cutting the grass at 8:00 I have a hard time getting up on time. I can fall right back asleep to that noise. They usually use the leaf blowers later in the day to blow around the trimmings they get on the sidewalk so no sleeping then.

Y'know, you don't have to have lawns, either… just sayin'.

We can, and still do. I hand washed two bedspreads just today in a #2 wash tub and hung them on the line. If you ever ride through North Hills Estates and see clothes flapping in the breeze you'll know who's house you just passed
