I recently moved to Cary from Orlando and I'm glad to see there's a 5k/10k here in April (Orlando area has tons of races since the triathalons are held there). Are there any groups that train together? It's been a while since my last race so I'm a little out of shape and would love to have a group for motivation. I've thought of tracking down the high school cross country team but thought that might be a bit creepy

There are TONS of running groups here! I'm a newbie runner, so you're out of my league, but when I 'get up to speed', I hope to join a group!

Check out Meetup.com, there are a few listed there. Also run google searches...you'll find several that might interest you.

CGTC - Carolina Godivas

Also, Raleigh Running Outfitters has a team and does training runs: Team Raleigh Running Outfitters

And if you are also interested in a social running group, as in more on the fun side opposed to focusing on training, send me a DM.

There's several hash groups in the area. They're a running club (although I use 'running club' very loosely...I think their mottos is "A drinking group with a running problem"). Not for the faint of heart (and I mean in etiquitte, not running ability) in my experience (which was only overseas). I'm not a local hasher so won't get into details as I'm not familiar with the local groups. But if you're a runner and looking for some social opportunities, check out the Hash House Harriers.

Also Galloway is out of Raleigh. They're for those training for a half or full marathon and have ALL levels (literally walking to Boston qualifiers)

I didn't realize that!??! Good to know!

My neighborhood has a TON of runners. In fact, that's what inspired me to lace up.

We have at least 2 Iron Men on my street, too!

I don't think Galloway is out of Raleigh. I think there is just a local Raleigh Galloway group, the same as in other cities.
