Has anyone ever appealed a car tax bill because of high mileage?

I've had a friend try with little (ok, no) success. But lets just say he's not the smoothest talker in the world.

I have a family member though that was successful in getting the value of his vehicle reduced when they valued it several thousand above STICKER. And he didn't pay remotely close to sticker!

I didn't appeal because of high mileage, but I did appeal because last year they said my 4 year old Honda Pilot was worth over $20k. When I called to find out how to challenge the assessment, they recommended I take it to somewhere like Carmax and get a written offer for it and mail it in. I was too lazy and got all of the inventory Pilots from NC that Carmax had for sale that were the roughly the same mileage and the same model with the same features. Anyway, the average price was around $17k. I sent in all the data and summary statistics and mailed it in and they reduced my bill $7. This year I'm just going to pay it.

No. I filed in 2006 and they reduced my 2006 taxes by $7. It wasn't pages of crap. One summary page (about 4 lines) with a page and a half of back up data (in case my summary data was questioned). My 2007 assessment was down $2000 or so so my tax was down $20 or so. Still too high, but not worth fighting.
