I recently was diagnosed with bilateral mandibular tumors (apparently not very common), and was referred to Dr. Turvey. He and his staff have been absolutely wonderful throughout this entire ordeal. In my initial consultation with Dr Turvey, he was very matter-of-fact about my situation, which I truly appreciated. I would rather know the worse-case possibilities than have things sugar-coated. He explained that the tumors were up in-between the roots of my teeth and wrapped around the nerves in that area. He explained that I could possibly loose most of my bottom teeth, and loose feeling in my chin/lip area.

Dr. Turvey works miracles! He was able to save every one of my teeth, and he was able to remove the tumors without damaging the nerves. He also discovered the cause of the tumors (abnormal parathyroid gland), and got me referred to an endocrinologist while I was recovering in the hospital.

I have seen his resident, Dr. Shirley for most of my follow-up appointments, and I feel just as confident in his abilities as I do with Dr. Turvey's. I have no hesitation in recommending this practice for any oral surgery needs. I will note that because my issue was tumors, I was seen ASAP and surgery was scheduled for less than a week later.

OP here... as a follow up to my original post, I thought I should note that neither Dr. Turvey's nor Dr. Blakey's office ever got back to me or returned my calls to schedule a consult. I called the orthodontist three times to check that they had sent the referral to the surgeon. Supposedly, they both mailed and faxed it over. While I expected it would take awhile to get an appt for a surgery consult, I was very disappointed that after several months I still didn't even have an appt scheduled. The doctors don't have a regular receptionist to schedule appointments, you have to leave a message with their patient coordinator resident/person and wait for them to call you back (or not).

I ended up having a consult with Dr. Frost at his private practice instead. Great experience, very professional, appointments set up in very reasonable amount of time.
