Well, I did figure most people use GPS! Guess I lived in the area too long and really didnt find the roads confusing. Also being Thanksgiving weekend, they could park the car and walk around North Hills after a day of exploring ( plenty of restaurants and a movie theater)

We've done a 360 and actually booked the Umstead. It's a REAL splurge, but my husband was seriously ill earlier this year and we missed our vacation, so this IS our vacation.

Hopefully the driving distance to Apex and Holly Springs won't be horrendous.

Looks like a lovely place.

It's our favorite get away spot when we don't have time to spend traveling. We live in Raleigh and a long weekend at the Umstead will still seem like a vacation. Don't miss the bar for a light bite and a relaxed evening. The complimentary coffee and morning pastries also in the bar are not to be missed.

Frank

It's not far at all. No worries. The Umstead is lovely. Enjoy!

Should be a nice relaxing place to stay - from what I have read.

Shocked, though, at the prices they charge they don't include breakfast. Thank goodness parking is included.

Default Where to eat - Cary/Apex

We will be coming out for a short "scouting" trip Fri Nov 29 - Mon Dec 2, with half days on either end.

Can anyone recommend some fairly central places to eat during our stay?

Because we are spending quite a bit on our hotel (Umstead) we would prefer casual, not expensive places to eat, where we don't have to dress up, but that have good food. We'd prefer something with "local" flavor and not chains if we can help it.

Looking for a couple places in Apex and Cary for lunch/dinner. We may eat at the hotel our first night and crash early. Maybe the bar menu to save $$.

Also, because Umstead doesn't include breakfast and it's likely pricey there, looking for a good breakfast place or two.

We like burgers, Italian, American and BBQ. Love places that use fresh, local ingredients. Nothing too far off the beaten path. We will have the GPS, but are short on time.

LaFarm in Cary - for breakfast or lunch, not too far from your hotel.
