We plan on visiting over Thanksgiving weekend.

Think we will stay in Cary, as that is most likely community for us, possibly Apex.

Where would be the best place to stay that would be central? We're a fan of Marriotts, but seem to be none in Cary.

We don't need anything fancy, but something a cut above a Red Roof Inn.

We like Renaissance - part of Marriott chain - are there any in Cary that are central?

Raleigh Extended Stay Hotels in Cary NC | Residence Inn Cary Hotel

There are a Hampton Inn, and a Comfort Inn across the street on Asheville Avenue.

All three are in a good location to explore Cary and Apex, and to hop on US1/64 and to I40 to explore further.

There is a LaQuinta in a Central Cary location. Every one I have been in has been very clean and comfortable.

I could swear there is a Courtyard by Marriott by MacGregor Downs. There is also a Homewood Suites over there.

I like the Embassy Suites in Cary, but it's not really central to Apex too (although it's right off 40 and close to the airport).

ETA: here it is:

Not quite in Cary, but I think Hotel Indigo is really cool and very nice. I stayed in one in Chicago recently.

I think we'd love something also a step above a Comfort Inn/LaQuinta Inn. Hilton perhaps?

Suprised there aren't more higher end choices for the size of the area.

Embassy Suites in North Cary, @ I-40, Exit 287.
Probably not a Hilton, but nice enough for most folks.

There IS a Hilton at RDU. Not very central to Cary/Apex.
Whoops. Hilton Garden Inn.
And another at Crossroads Plaza area, which is a bit more central for Cary, Raleigh, Apex, Holly Springs.

The Umstead is also at Exit 287, but you didn't indicate a need for 5 Stars. Nice lobby, though.

I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in the Crossroads Boulvard area of Cary. It is next to a Hilton Garden Inn and a Doubletree. They all had indoor pools which is my criterion for a nice hotel. It's a nice area at the junction of US 1 and I-40. Dozens of restaurants in the area, but mostly chains.

Cary isn't exactly a hotel destination. There are tons of hotels in RTP near the airport. Unfortunately, you'd have to search both Raleigh and Durham, since they're in both cities (the airport is right between Raleigh and Durham). The airport is about 5 minutes from Cary, but can also be 45 minutes from Cary. Depends on where in Cary. The "towns" down here are not at all like towns in the Northeast. They sprawl all over the place and it's never clear which one you're in at any given moment.
