Anyhow, I like the idea of someone putting up some lights for me but I've no idea of the cost.

Found this article about the service:

Thanks for the link! Hmmm. That's a bit high for what we wanted, but I see he's broken it down for cost of lights vs install. The companies I have seen don't sell lights. They put up what you buy. Should save money. We don't want a ton of lights. Or, maybe I do.

I've seen this service on Craigslist. If you have a smart phone, use the Craigslist app to set up a notification for when they start advertising there.

There was a Living Social or Groupon last year for exterior Christmas lights. You might want to keep an eye out for that too.

I'd be curious what you find.... there is absolutely NO joy in putting up lights, dealing with the fact half of last year's lights don't work, thinking you are going to fall off ladder etc

I had an old landscaping company that did it but we ended up firing them as they did not do a great job of landscaping so not going to rec them!

Nah... thank goodness. Our bedroom is near their side of the house.

I'll be sure to post back after I get some quotes.

I hate putting up outdoor lights.

Why not just not put them up ??

Do a few spot lights on a door wreath, and just decorate inside...
